Bayelsa State Government mourns...

The Bayelsa State Government has joined other Nigerians to mourn the Kaduna State Governor, Dr. Patrick Yakowa and the Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Andrew Azazi.

Yesterday was obviously a sad day for the people of Nigeria, it was a day that started out like every other day, but mid-way, it became a black day, a black Saturday. It was yet another crash that took everyone by surprise . Death played a fast one on the victims. *Sad*.

In a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Markson Fefegha.........

"The Bayelsa State Government also wish to condole with the family of the immediate past National Security Adviser and Chairman of Bayelsa State Post Flood Management Committee, Gen. Andrew Oweye Azazi, who was among the passengers on board, in the ill-fated helicopter crash.

Our heartfelt condolence also goes to the families of the personal security aides to both Chief Yakowa and Gen. Azazi, as well as the pilots of the helicopter.

The vacuum created by the demise of these notable personalities will be difficult to fill, noting their contributions to the growth of, not only their respective States, but the Country as a whole."

Where to Find State Government Auctions in Your Home State

State government auctions are typically held on an annual basis, but each state will have its own schedule. These tips will help you find and prepare for the auctions that are held in your own state by giving you advice on what to expect, what to bring with you, and what kind of prices to prepare for.
When Are The Auctions?
To find out when local state government auctions will be held near you, all that you need to do is simply contact the sheriff's department, fire department or city chamber of commerce for a schedule. Each of these departments will have some items that are being auctioned each year, and will be able to give you information about the next auction in your state. Both local city and state offices have auctions each year.
If you live in a small rural city, then you may find that auctions are held less frequently. In larger areas, such as cities, the auctions are held more often to ensure enough storage space for the goods that are confiscated for auction in the upcoming months.
Who Has Auctions?
There are several different agencies and institutions that hold state government auctions. For example, banks, while not necessarily state government, will hold auctions on foreclosed homes throughout the year in cities across the nation. The police department also has auctions, which can include many different types of items that have been confiscated and never reclaimed. Many local departments also have auctions.
What Can I Buy?
In addition to foreclosed homes, you can also purchase items such as large machinery, including tractors, cars and personal home items. Radios, furniture, office accessories and even computers are all widely available at state government auctions. You may find that as time for the auction draws near, the agency responsible for the auction will provide a complete listing of the items that are to be auctioned off.
What Should I Bring?
To buy certain items from a state government auction, you will need to have a valid ID. For example, if you want to purchase a car that is being auctioned off, in most states you will need to be at least eighteen and have a driver's license to buy the car. You will also need to bring your checkbook or cash to the auction. Most state auctions require payment for all items immediately following the auction.
Luckily, when you purchase goods from a local state auction you will not have to worry about paying any registration fees, which are common in online government auctions. If you do need to pay registration fees, then you will pay them before the auction begins, and will not be refunded even if you do not purchase anything. The fees will help pay for the costs associated with the auction. If you have been looking for a specific item, then state government auctions are a great place to begin your search, and can save you money.

Understanding Form and System of the United States Government

As much as the United States of America is globally known as a democratic government, it is more accurately termed as a constitutional federal government. The constitution of the United States serve as the foundation and contract between the state and its citizens in their unified endeavor to form a united federation of states of America. It is the foundation of the federation because it provides for the basis and rationale for the creation of what is now the most powerful country in the world. This document is necessary not only because it narrates the basis of the United States system but it is also the social contract between the state and its people. Modern political philosophers advance the idea that governments are created on the basis that the people agreed among themselves to form a government that will uphold and represent their interests. This agreement among the people is written into a piece of paper known as the constitution. The contract provides for the limitations of the powers and responsibilities of the government that they agreed to create.
The United States is a federal republic. It is federal because most of its powers are devolved to the local states. The federal government, although given the highest and widest power and governance, most of its powers are exercised by the state and local political units. Three levels of power and governance govern the United States. The federal level of governance is given the authority to control and manage the national affairs of the United States. The national or federal government is responsible for regulating the internal affairs between its states, providing for national defense, managing the national economy, and dealing with the relationships with other sovereign states and other international entities. The state level of power and governance in the United States politics has the responsibility of managing the more internal and local affairs of their respective political subdivision. The area of control for this state government is only limited to its boundaries. To further devolutionize and empower the locals and citizens, the most localized level of the United States politics is the local government. This local government handles and manages almost the household level of social concerns. They are in the form of city, county, town, or districts of the said geopolitical area.
It is United States is a republic primarily because the power and authority of the government belongs to the people. The people, in order to build peaceful and coherent subdivisions of political power and authority, elect people to act as their representatives to the political system in all levels of governance. They have the ultimate capacity to elect and recall officials of the national, state, and local political units. Republicanism vests upon the general public the power to form the government elect the people who will run it, and ultimately participate in the decision-making process of the national, state, and local governments. This political and power structure of the government of the United States of America has proven to be very effective in handling the affairs and concerns of a country with extremely diverse nationalities, cultures, and a very vast and expanse land area.

State Governments: Immobile, Going Broke But High On Wine

Many state and local governments are heading towards financial insolvency as a result of their state employee pension and retiree medical liabilities. Consider an article from the October 18, 2010 issue of Businessweek magazine:
- According to a study by the University of Rochester and Northwestern University, there could up to as much as $3 TRILLION in unfunded state workers' retirement liabilities. This comes out to about $26,000 worth of debt burden for every family in America.
- One reason for the problem is that state governments have historically been very generous with the way they funded the retirement plans of their state employees. According to the U.S. Labor Department, state and local governments paid $3.04 per hour toward each state employee's retirement in 2007 compared to $.92 that private companies paid for their employees.
- The median state government pension plan had only 76% of its obligations covered as of this summer.
- Six cities, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and St. Paul Minnesota, will run out of pension money by 2020 if nothing changes.
- Other state government programs, such as drug treatment centers and after school activities, are being starved for funds and curtailed in an attempt to meet these huge retirement obligations.
Now consider some individual state situations:
- According to a recent online article by the Washington Examiner, the state government of Maryland has $33 billion in unfunded pension liabilities.
- According to the Stateline online website, West Virgina has a $7.4 billion shortfall in its state government retiree health care system.
- According to the Houston Chronicle, the Texas state government has a $38.5 billion shortfall in its retiree fund.
- According to an online National Review article, the state of Ohio would have to dedicate 100% of its the next 8.75 years of its revenue stream to fulfill the current state government employee retirement liabilities, excluding any future liabilities. Obviously, if this was theoretically to happen, all other state funding would bet set to zero for almost nine years, i.e. no teachers, no state police, no roadwork, etc.
- Virgina recently closed a $4 billion shortfall in its operating budget partly do to the fact that it did not pay the required $620 million into its state employee retirement fund, raising the possibility of a larger shortfall for the funding down the road.
Why single out those five states? It ties into another recent article that was in the October 25, 2010 issue of Businessweek entitled: "Pouring Government Money Into Merlot and Chardonnay." Apparently, despite possibly being $3 TRILLION in the hole just for state government employee pension benefits, all fifty state governments have some kind of program of giving state taxpayer money to in state wineries. The article points out the following examples:
- The state of Maryland, despite a $33 billion shortfall, has paid out over $80,000 to six in-state wineries to both plant more vines and expand production capacity. Knob Hall Winery received $8,000 from the state to plant 4,000 vines. The winery has lost money every year since it opened in 2006 and will be unprofitable again this year. Thus, the state of Maryland is not even funding a profitable private endeavor.
- The state of Texas, despite a $38.5 billion shortfall, allocates $2.3 million a year of taxpayer money for wine research, marketing, and grants, nine times what it allocated in 2005. Thus, as the economy got worse, more taxpayer money went into the in-state wine business.
- The state of Ohio, despite swimming in red ink caused by its out of control retiree liabilities, spent more than $1.1 million in subsidizing its state wineries last year, up 38% from the previous year.
- The state of Virginia, despite a multi-billion dollar budget shortfall, dedicates $1.3 million of its budget to support its state wineries.
- Although the West Virginia state government winery support dollars are not in the article, consider the financial status of the Forks of Cheat Winery in West Virginia. The winery is 22 years old and has yet to turn a profit. Wonder how many West Virginia taxpayer dollars are going to support this long time unprofitable operation?
- According to a spokesperson from the American Sommelier Association, it usually takes over two decades, if then, for a new winery to become profitable.
As a result of their outsized retiree pension liabilities, the states are rapidly facing bankruptcy, find themselves cutting other vital human services in order to pay for these retiree programs, but somehow think it is a good idea to subsidize unprofitable private businesses. How many drug treatment centers could be kept open in Texas if it diverted that $2.3 million winery subsidy? How many more teachers could Ohio keep on the payroll if they diverted the $1.3 million they spend?
And it is not just the states. According to the article, the Federal government, that government level with over $13 TRILLION worth of debt, will spend $500,000 of Federal taxpayer money just to help Virgina wineries, it will spend $40,000 to encourage alternative vine growing strategies in Idaho, and will spend $9,000 to improve highway access to wineries in Colorado.
Obviously, stopping all winery subsidies will not cure the states' pension program problems and will not balance the Federal budget. However, these subsides are no more than examples of corporate welfare and should not be a responsibility or priority of any government entity, there are just too many problems, both financial and human, that need to be addressed with limited funds. How many other industries in each state and throughout the country receive taxpayer dollars? Add up all of those subsidies and you are probably talking about some serious dollars.
If a winery cannot be profitable on its own, it is not the state's duty to keep it alive. In doing so, other vital financial needs go unmet. This is the concept that New York Times columnist David Brooks talked about several weeks ago, our "immobile government." Government in America today has become so burdened down with bad priorities, poorly structured, poorly negotiated, and poorly financed retirement plans for state workers and corporate subsidies for failing businesses such as wineries, just to name one, that vital services, services that could positively and materially affect regular individual citizens, go wanting. Drug treatment centers, school funding, infrastructure improvements, etc. cannot be done because the political class has done such a poor job of immobilizing government at every level with bad and burdensome priorities.
The question of whether state governments and the Federal government will be able to fix their financial status and shake off the bondage of immobile government is the greatest challenge facing the country today. We can only hope that the politicians can find the courage, respect, and knowledge to fix these dire problems. We owe it future generations of Americans to present them with a workable, financially strong and mobile government structure and we can pay no higher respect to the sacrifices our veterans have made than to fix the country they so bravely defended so many times and restore the freedom that immobile government steals away.

Asari-Dokubo Spits Fire: Why I’m Against The President Goodluck. His Relationship With Obasanjo, Yar’Adua

Alhaji Mujaheed Asari-Dokubo, President of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) is arguably the most visible Niger Delta activist that has openly refused to submit himself to the Federal Government’s Amnesty Programme.

He has not only proclaimed the programme fraudulent, but insisted on the declaration of an independent Ijaw nation under a renegotiated term through the convocation of Sovereign National Conference.
In this interview with the Abuja Bureau Chief, Iseoluwa Ige and Olufemi Adeosun, he speaks on Jonathan presidency, Boko Haram and other national questions. Excerpts:

The actualisation of resource control and self determination are at the heart of your group’s agitations in the last few years. To what extent will you say your group has achieveed these twin demands under President Goodluck Jonathan, who happens to come from that region?
For me, government is not represented by an individual; it is represented by the ground norm. And the ground norm in Nigeria is the Constitution. And as long as the Constitution remains as it is, it cannot engender development because development can only be achieved when there are enabling laws. When you have the Land Use Act, Inland Waterway Act, Petroleum and Pipeline Act, and so many laws that confiscate the resources of the people, the land, the water, it becomes very difficult for an individual to change it. Goodluck Jonathan cannot on his own say this is the law and it becomes law like in some countries where some people would say I am the law. When Saddam Hussein was the President of Iraq, he said and he would say I am the law, whatever I write with my hands is the law. Nigerian laws are worse than the Apartheid laws of South Africa before the eventual freedom. That is why we have always demanded for self determination through the peaceful Convocation of the Sovereign National Conference.

In the thick of the agitation for these self determination and resource control, the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo arrested and charged you to court in Abuja… (Cut in).
I was not only arrested during Obasanjo’s administration, I have been in and out detention, not because I am a rapist, a bunkerer or an armed robber, but because I am an Ijaw man who proclaimed to be and remained an Ijaw man. I have been arrested and interrogated by the men of the State Security Service more than 70 times. I have been in detention more than 40 times. There was a time I always prepared my bag, waiting for them to come. When they come, I pick my bag and follow them not knowing when I would be back. It is not a new thing. The only time I have not been arrested or harassed is during the current administration. When the late Umaru Yar’Adua was in power, it took the intervention of President Medvedev of Russia to bring me out of detention. That was when a question was asked about why an amnesty could be declared and at the same time effect arrest of others at the State House during a joint press conference between Russian President and Yar’Adua in 2009. My offence at that time was that I had the temerity to tell Yar’Adua that the amnesty was fraudulent. That was it, but shortly after then, I fled the country. For 10 months, I was outside the country until I arrived when Jonathan became Acting President. From Babangida to Yar’Adua, I have been detained by the government.

National Mirror was monitoring and covering the case by then, but till now we are yet to ascertain the position of the case in court.
I don’t even know what happened because I had no access to my lawyers and even my doctor. All I knew was that one day SSS officials just came and told me that I had been released and that I should go. I never applied for bail. Of course, I was privy to some surreptitious moves and so on. I never begged. There are people who are alive. The Amayanabo of Nembe, His Royal Majesty, Edmund Madubebe Dakoru, came to me in my cell (at that time, former governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva was his SA) came to beg me to change my lawyer and take Afe Babalola(SAN) and then make a bargain to beg Obasanjo. But I told him I would prefer to die in the prison. Also former governor of River State, Mr. Donald Duke, came to beg me, myself and his wife, Onari, attended the same Primary school. He told me there are only living heroes, but I told him that almost all the heroes that I knew were all dead.

He told me that all I needed to regain my freedom was to go tell Baba that ‘I am sorry,’ but I insisted I would do no such a thing. I would never beg Obasanjo to release  me from prison. When Obasanjo knew I was not ready to beg, he tried to use some elders to come and talk to me, Chief Edwin Clark, George Alfred Diete -Spiff and several people from Niger Delta. Senator (Uche) Chuckwumerije and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, also came, but I stood my ground. I cannot deny the fact that I am not Nigerian. I am an Ijaw man.

If for that I am going to be killed, I am ready to die. So the government granted me bail behind my back. Since I came out, many people have been agitating that I should tell the government to discontinue the case, but I said it with Goodluck Jonathan or anybody? But I know why the government would want to use it as the last card to blackmail me to submission. I don’t give a damn. Last year, many of my mates, relations and friends died. They never knew they were going to die. They had tall dreams. So, how do I know that if I beg today, I will not die tomorrow? It will be very shameful for me. If the government feels it is going to use it, It cannot hold me.

My aspirations and dreams are very clear. I came into this world to be alive, to glorify God and to lift up my people. I cannot come into this world and not contribute to bringing out my people from slavery. And to make sure we become free men and in doing that, I am ready to die because whether I am afraid and run away, death with still catch up with me. Our struggle is very clear; we are not struggling for Niger Delta Ministry or Presidency. We want an independent Ijaw nation with Ijaw people ruling themselves. But this first, should be negotiated. A Hausa man would not force me to live with him. A Fulani man, a stranger who invaded this country some 200 years ago, cannot force me to live with him. A Yoruba man cannot force me to live with him. I have Ibo blood. If I cannot live in Ijaw land, I can go and live in Ibo land. I know my root. But somebody I have no connection with cannot trust me.

During the administrations of former Presidents Obasanjo and Yar’Adua, militancy was on the increase, but now that Jonathan is in power, it appears to have been reduced. Could it be because Jonathan share the same views with you on this self-determination? If he does, would you really say his administration is doing something towards the realisation of the emancipation of Ijaw people?
I don’t think Goddluck Jonathan is going to do anything. We are becoming very impatient. But it will be wrong to fight your own brother. Jonathan is one of us; he is our brother, our blood, our flesh and our bone. You give him the benefit of the doubt and see if he shares the same aspiration with you. But overtime if it is clear he does not share the same aspiration with you, then you say, ‘my brother, e be like say the way you dey waka no be the way we dey do our own o, we wan leave you waka on our own o.’ And it would come to that because people are becoming impatient, they have started asking questions. The Boko Haram people are becoming bolder now.

They think we have been subdued, and this is not what we can take. Our belief is that for us to peacefully live together, we must peacefully re-negotiate the terms of our living together and if Jonathan does not believe in that, then we must ask ourselves question whether we are on the same template. He is our brother, but we cannot sacrifice our freedom for him. When Isaac Boro started, he didn’t know Goodluck Jonathan, when King Jaja of Opobo started, he didn’t know Jonathan, when King Koko Okia of Nembe started, he didn’t know Goodluck Jonathan, when Nana of Itsekiri started, he didn’t know Jonathan.

All the people who started this struggle never knew Jonathan. So, we cannot sacrifice our patriotic struggle for freedom for the sake of one man. We cannot do that. We must re-negotiate the terms and that is why there must be an un-inhibited gathering of the people with sovereign power to negotiate. Nobody can tell us that Nigeria is sacrosanct; it is not. It is a dubious, evil creation of the British for their economic interest and white supremacy.

You cannot put an old wine in a new bottle; it will burst. For us, we have given Jonathan enough time to look at this fundamental issue of freedom. Jonathan became the President not because he was the best, but because of what he represents. When the Gbagi man from Abuja look at him, or a man from Birnin Kudu look at him, he sees in Jonathan his own image and picture – the image of the deprived , oppressed people who have been put under the jack-boot of the “Born to Rule Project.”

It is the same thing with the Biron and Ogoni men. How can Jonathan stand shoulder to shoulder with former military President Ibrahim Babangida, it is not possible. It is the collective strength of the deprived people that said no to enslavement that brought Jonathan to power. If today, having climbed up, he pushes down the ladder, we will be waiting for him when he comes down.

Could that be the reason why you were quoted as saying that he would not be eligible for a second term?
I didn’t say so; maybe you didn’t read my interview well. What I said was that the way Jonathan is going on, the South-South might lose its uninterrupted eight years because there are nothing on the ground, nothing is happening. That is the truth and it must be said without mincing words. You cannot continue to keep quite when nothing is happening. East-West Road is a death trap; the coastal roads that Yar’Adua spoke about have been thrown away. Where is the Ledum Mitte Report? How long shall we wait?

In specific terms, what are your expectations from President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration?
We expect nothing from him other than what belong to us. He cannot give us anything because he is a part of us. Whatever he is, we gave to him. Not the other way round. What we are saying is that ‘you are the one we have prepared for the battle, where are the bounties?’ Why did we lose our lives? Why did the Ibo youth corps CONTINUED FROM PAGE 14 members, Yoruba youth corps members, Itsekiri youth corps members and Urhobo youth corps members who stood their ground in the North were burnt alive? What did they sacrifice their lives for? Jonathan did not become President the way Yar’Adua and Obasanjo became President. Goodluck became President with the blood of the people because the “Born to Rule” people said that he would never win. He therefore cannot tell us we have no right to the benefits of what we fought and died for. Jonathan should not play with our emotions.

When Goodluck Jonathan came into power and the agitation simmered, many people attributed it to the fact that some of the brains behind the agitation were allocated with oil block..(Cut in)
That is an insult, oil blocks belong to us. Why should (Aliko) Dangote, (Femi) Otedola and (Mike) Adenuga have oil blocs? Who are they? What rights do they have to my oil blocs? What rights do they have that I don’t have? I am not a gentleman at all, what belongs to me I will take, peacefully or by force.

Don’t you think some people would say that you are picking on the President at this time because he has fallen short of your personal expectations of him?
So, if a man takes food from my mouth I should support him? What are you saying now? So if one Editor in National Mirror fires you today would you smile at him? Why should I not expect what belongs to me, that Otedola should expect? That Wale Tinubu should expect? That Dangote should expect? That Adenuga should expect, but me at 50 years I should not expect? That Jonathan should eat in the Villa and fill with excess and I should not eat? And I should support him; ‘I no shame for that one. If he no give me wetin be my own, I go fight am.’ Period! There is no two ways about it. Do you want me to die with my 18 children in hunger? No way! I am too prominent in this struggle; I have made some sacrifices. I did not emerge from the blue. I was the Vice-President of IYC, I was Deputy President of IYC and I was President. I started the armed struggle from the creek. Nobody wins and hands it over to people. That is why those who were at the cadre of revolutions in North Korea, in China and elsewhere that are pushed forward for leadership. So, nobody can push me around; it is not possible. I don’t expect anything from Jonathan. I demand what belongs to me. If he doesn’t give me, I will fight.

How then would he be able to settle down with the business of governance if you, his kinsman, is fi ghting him on one hand and Boko Haram is killing innocent Nigerians, causing security challenges?
It is because he is unable to manage his goodwill. If people support you and make sacrifices for you, you should appreciate them. But if you sit down comfortably in Aso Rock and become Pharaoh who did not know Joseph, then Moses would come to lead the people to freedom. Since Boko Haram is fighting him, he must be cautious and ruminate on this. (Bola) Tinubu supported Jonathan to win the last presidential election, but what is his relationship with Tinubu today? Obasanjo fought for him, what is his relationship with Obasanjo? Jerry Gana, Solomon Lar and Edwin Clark put their lives on the line, what is his relationship with them. Why are they angry with him? That means you are not able to manage your goodwill. And if you are not able to do that, I cannot hold forth for you at radio and television houses.

Would there be peace if President Jonathan decides to give you what belongs to you?
Obasanjo gave me. Yar’Adua even did more. He gave me right to lift oil, 10,000 barrels. Almost every month I was getting 5,000 DPK until I disagreed with him. Five thousand tonnes of DPK at that time translated to N36 million. Obasanjo offered to make me the first Director of Youth Sport and Women Affairs at the Directorate of NDDC, I rejected it because Obasanjo awarded a contract worth N4.5 billion in my village, Soku, when I told him that my people were suffering and he, a man from Abeokuta, was enjoying. I am a king in my village. NDDC has also awarded another dredging contract in Soku. When this terrible flood came, Soku was never flooded. Under Yar’Adua, he awarded road construction in my community. Even with all that, I spoke against Obasanjo government. When SSS wanted to recruit new hands during Obasanjo’s administration, I went to him, spoke to him and he said ‘bring a list of your people’ and I took the list, the people went for interview. Luckily out of the 15 people, only two did not pass.
During Obasanjo’s government, they were recruiting people in the Immigration Service. Some Obasanjo’s aides told me to meet with the immigration officials. Some of my people were recruited. These things were done under Obasanjo’s administration. Even when I was in prison, Obasanjo took filling stations to my village, (Funsho) Kupolokun gave me the management of that mega filling station.

Are you satisfied with the way Jonathan is addressing the menace of Boko Haram?
There is no way you can crush an armed agitation, it has not happened anywhere around the world. The most vociferous and boastful state, Zionist Israel, who claims all sorts of credit, has not been able to silence Hamas, with all its scientific powers. The United States has not been able to silence armed agitation against global policies of repression. In Libya, they have not been able to root out (Mommar) Gadaffi’s men with all the bombing, the killings and the spate of genocides committed against the people of Libya. In Syria, with the United States, Zionist Israel, the NATO and the armed bandits that entered the country have not been able to silence the voices of the resistance of the people of Syria. How do you expect Jonathan to silence Boko Haram.

It is difficult to fight people without face. Boko Haram is not just a religious movement; it has something to do with the agitation of those who have the mentality of “Born to Rule.” This is the last battle. It is either we become their slaves or they win or we regain our freedom and go our separate ways.

It has nothing to do with religion. Yes, initially, the “Yusuffirian” movement was a religion movement, but the Northern political elites thought they had got their own militants in the like of Asari Dokubos, the Tompolos and they embraced them. It is a Northern militia against the government of Goodluck Jonathan to distract and make sure he did not work. When Yar’ Adua killed Yusuf, that did not cure it. It has now become an octopus, with several wings. It was very easy to trace the group during the leadership of Yusuf. But now you don’t see anybody, that was why when Yusuf was killed, I condemned it. I said the consequences would be far reaching, but some people were jubilating. Even if Jonathan wants to give them power in 2015, we will not allow it because he does not have such discretion. Then we will meet at the battle of Armageddon. They are killing and bombing at home. Now there is every suspicion that the helicopter crash in which (Andrew) Azazi and (Patrick) Yakowa died is not an accident.

There is a build-up. People are saying this is not an accident. A time will come when a group of people in Port-Harcourt and anybody that looks like Boko Haram will be killed – innocent people – the “Maruwas” and the “Mesuyas”. It will reach a point of elasticity where people would not be able to stand it again. When our agitation was on, we did not kill and bomb people. The easier thing to do by any Ijaw man is dynamite. People know how to make dynamite in every Ijaw village. That is the point that Jonathan presidency has been able to prevent.

What then do you think is the way out?
That is where I am driving at. The man has tried to make peace with them, but they have refused to dialogue. When Azazi said ‘you cannot negotiate with terrorists,’ he was sacked. There are people who are gaining from the Boko Haram enterprise, people who are buying guns and other weapons. If you go to some offices, you will see CCTV, some people get the contracts. Boko Haram is a big enterprise. Some businessmen would want it to go on, like some people are working to sabotage power sector so that we continue to buy generators and run on diesels.

BREAKING NEWS: Thirteen feared dead as tanker rams into bus

Although details of the crash are still hazy, the tanker and bus reportedly caught fire immediately.
It was not clear where they were heading to when the crash occurred.

10 New Year’s Beauty Resolutions

Alright, New Year’s coming so it’s time to think about the beauty resolutions and most importantly how to stick with them. To make it work don’t be too hard on yourself and do not try to make everything from day one, but rather priortize things and introduce them gradually into your beauty regime.

Inspect Your Beauty Products

Expired beauty products can be hazardous. Bin them if you don’t remember when you bought them and don’t have packaging to tell you the expiration date. Also ditch the products you never or hardly use. They are not a good investment.

Shake Up Your Regimen

Spending too much time doing your hair or makeup? Not enough time? Shake up your regimen to give yourself reasonable amount of time to exfoliate, scrub, moisturize, pluck, etc. Also don’t over-exfoliate and overpluck your eyebrows. Simply find the rituals and treatments that work for you best and add those that you don’t do. For exaple, using SPF any time of the year is a necessary ritual that will protect your skin from UV damage.

Clean Those Brushes

Clean your brushes once a week. It’s not hard to do but it will surely keep your skin much healthier. Also organize your brushes and keep the once for powder and liquid products separately. Don’t forget to let them air dry before putting in a makeup bag or a drawer.

Ditch Bad Beauty Habits

This includes not only smoking and drinking but also picking pimples, not cleaning a cell phone, not changing pillow covers often enough. Cell phone has bacteria all over it so using special cleaning kit as often as possible just might make your face cleaner. Pillow covers should also be changed often to keep skin clean and pimple-free.

Commit To Your Hairstyle

Don’t leave your ends uncut for months and months. Make sure to get a trim at least every three months especially with the long hair. The split ends damage your har further and look unflattering. Got a new hair color? Touch up the roots once a month for a polished look. Also give your hair a rest every weekend by ditching all the styling tools and products.

Remove Your Makeup

Too tired to even remove your makeup? Keep makeup wipes at hand’s reach so that whenever you come home late you could quickly remove makeup before falling asleep. Do that to prevent breakouts, dull skin and bacteria build-up.

Choose The Right Products

Choosing the right products for our skin whether it’s makeup or cosmetics is crucial. First of all, choose the products that sooth your skin and don’t cause breakouts or allergies. Then choose the right foundation and finally the perfect shade of red lipstick. You can use expert tips or help at a beauty counter to choose all the right products.

Become More Active

Go to the gym or get a dance or yoga or Pilates class. Do something physical. Simply take walks around the building during lunch break at work or ditch elevator for stairs. Take a walk to the store if possible and rake leaves or clean snow yourself.

Eat Healthier Foods

Smoothies and shakes are a good addition to the diet but fresh veggetables and lean proteins will do your body even more good. Cut back on sugar especially in the frizzy drinks, sweets and junk food. Also make sure you drink that fresh water every day.

Get Your Beauty Sleep

8 hours of uninterrupted sleep will do wonders to your skin and body. Just make sure to go to bed in time and get enough hours to let your body recover from stresses, physical and mental overload.

Jay Z Cheating on Beyonce With Rita Ora

Yesterday we reported here on Celeb Dirty Laundry about Rita Ora’s alleged love affair with Beyonce’s man, Jay-Z. It all began when Holly Hagan – the star of the UK version of Jersey Shore, Geordie Shore – tweeted, “I’ve been told to say that Rita ora has been ALLEGEDLY bukin jay z! I repeat ALLEDGELY [sic}' Ora didn’t sit back and allow Hagan to name and shame her; instead, she hit back at Hagan in a series of scathing tweets. Ora wrote, “I stayed silent on one bulls**t rumour but this one I have to speak. Neva eva will any1 includin a red head dum z listin attention seekin whore try talk s**t about me& my family holly wateva da f*k ur name is.

After back and forth slut shaming, news outlets started picking up the story and it went viral. A representative for Hagan denied that the reality television star knew of any affair before posting the tweet, “Holly was commenting on a topic which she saw trending on Twitter involving Rita Ora. Miss Ora responded to Holly with some unkind words, to which Holly didn’t respond as she’s been a victim of online bullying before and didn’t want to encourage further with a response.”

Ora has a long history of allegedly illicit love affairs. After her split from Rob Kardashian – yes, the Rob Kardashian – he took to Twitter and outed her for her affairs. Kardashian tweeted, “She cheated on me with nearly 20 dudes while we were together... But I mean 20?!!! How can a woman who is so busy trying to start her own career have time to be with so many dudes while in a relationship?!” Soon after, the reality television wannabe star deleted the tirade and left fans of Ora wondering whether there was any veracity to the allegations.

She, however, hit back at Kardashian in a recent Glamour magazine interview and insisted that they were still friends “It didn’t work because I was never there. I was like a ghost. I used to get so frustrated with myself and then wonder why I was angry, so I decided it was best to keep it friendly - especially at the moment, when there's so much going on,” she said in the interview.
What do you believe? Do you think Ora is/was involved in an affair with Jay-Z? Do you think there’s any truth to Hagan’s rumours? Do you think, although she denies the rumours, Beyonce still believes it?

Governor Sullivan Chime May Soon Be Impeached!

There are subtle moves by a clique in Enugu State to facilitate the removal of Governor Sullivan Chime, writes Ozioma Ubabukoh
A series of meetings, some marathon and muffled, have been going on in Enugu, the capital of Enugu State. At virtually all the meetings, the common item for deliberation revolved around the prolonged ‘leave’ by the state Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime.

Not only has the governor’s sojourn overseas for accumulated annual vacation become a source of worry in the state, political actors with eyes on the 2015 general elections have moved in with a web of intrigues. In fact, as at the wee hours of Thursday, December 27, 2012, the issue of who succeeds Chime against the well-known power-sharing arrangement in the state was at the centre of plans for progress in 2013.

A prominent member of the state government, who was part of the meetings, told in Saturday PUNCH, “We have been meeting to lay out plans for progress in 2013.” He stated that certain elements in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, who feel sidetracked in the scheme of things, have been fueling calls for the impeachment of the governor.

He said, “You may have heard that the state House of Assembly is considering an impeachment option against His Excellency, Governor Sullivan Chime, if by the end of January he does not return to the country.
“We know those who are behind these orchestrated calls on the legislature to act in that manner. But instead of joining issues with unseen parties, we are engaged in discussions aimed at convincing the relevant stakeholders that the governor has breached no law.”

Chime, on September 19, 2012, had begun his official leave. He presided over an executive council meeting a day before and had informed his cabinet members that he would be starting his annual vacation. The Deputy Governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, was handed over the reins of state power to sit in for the governor while he was away.

Saturday PUNCH recalls that from 2007 when he was inaugurated, Chime has never gone on annual leave. It was, therefore, against this background that no more words were heard from the government when the governor’s leave period stretched.

Residents began to discuss in hushed tones about the governor’s absence, but in a short time the rumour mill went full blast. The political dimension was introduced.

Some members of the state assembly began to ask questions, albeit in subdued tones. Such was the setting, that even the Speaker, Mr. Eugene Odoh, was inundated with sundry designs and requests for clarification.
To lend credence to the pressures brought to bear on the Speaker, a member of the Assembly, who insisted that his name should not be in print, told reporters that, “the situation has become very embarrassing.”

Though the legislator stated that there was the need for the lawmakers to act, he said what they knew about the health challenges of the governor was scanty. He added that it was not clear whether such deficient knowledge was enough to mandate the acting governor to function as the substantive governor with full executive powers.

A new twist was, however, added to the whole saga when a group going by the name, Civil Society Initiative, came up with what it called ‘Operation Locate Governor Chime.’ A prominent promoter of the group, Jude Agu, said that after 90 days of absence and without official pronouncement on the whereabouts of the governor, “we want to search through all the nooks and crannies to fish him out.”

Agu contended that the lack of official pronouncement on the governor’s situation gave the impression that the people surrounding him were out to hide certain things from the public.

Amid the histrionics and seemingly shadow chasing, the National Secretary of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, Willy Ezeugwu, descended on the members of the state House of Assembly, accusing them of transforming into a social club presided over by the speaker.

In an interview with Saturday PUNCH, Ezeugwu said he wanted the legislators to act in accordance with constitutional stipulations. “I told them that it was the same thing that happened when late President Umaru Yar’Adua was sick and he was kept away from Nigerians. So, I said it was time for the Enugu State House of Assembly to do something and that if they fail to act, I will personally lead 10,000 Enugu citizens to the streets for them to let us know where our governor is. I am also calling on the constituents to recall the legislators because they have lost their essence,” he declared.

Ezeugwu contended that instead of concerns for zonal balance, the legislators should follow the constitution.
Dismissing Ezeugwu’s position, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Joe Mmamel, said there was no point joining issues with political jobbers in the media. He insisted that such exchanges would not advance the cause of development in the state.

Mmamel said what some less informed commentators were advocating had no bearing on governance in Enugu, pointing out that the acting governor had been carrying out his functions without let or hindrance.

But despite the continued running of government in the state, some opposition politicians are busy analysing the development and building different scenarios. For instance, at a meeting held by some powerful elements from Enugu East Senatorial Zone from where the acting Governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, hails, the zone stated that as far as Onyebuchi was concerned, whoever was asking for the impeachment of Chime should look elsewhere.

A stalwart of the PDP from Akpugo in Enugu East Senatorial Zone, who was one of the playmakers in former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani’s administration and attended the meeting, spoke to Saturday PUNCH in strict confidence. He said that at the meeting, the prevailing political climate in the state was reviewed. He pointed out that the stand of every true Nkanu native was that Onyebuchi should not be supported to become governor.

He said the acting governor, who is styled as Mr. Anonymous, hails from Umuode and as such, any political calculation to enhance his influence should be resisted with all vehemence. He said, “Apart from the fact that he is from Umuode, you know what I mean; the acting governor has not been reaching out and he does not enjoy the support of eminent Nkanu politicians like Senators Jim Nwobodo and Ken Nnamani.”

And while Enugu East politicians are complacent about a possible Onyebuchi governorship, those from Enugu West, from where Chime hails, have made it clear that even if the wishes of Chime’s detractors were to become feasible, the zone must complete its eight years in office and hand over to Enugu North Senatorial district (Nsukka cultural zone).

In all these calculations, the fact that the speaker of the house of assembly comes from Enugu North makes it implausible for him to become governor in the event of a possible impeachment of Onyebuchi.

The constitution stipulates that on the unlikely event of the governor and deputy governor being impeached from office, the speaker would occupy the position for six months within which a bye-election will be conducted.
Just as Enugu politicians are busy raising hypothetical settings, younger brother to Chime, Mr. Jideofor Chime, told Saturday PUNCH that even as the rumour of his brother’s death was making the rounds in Nigeria, he left the governor in London.

Jideofor stressed that in this age of technology, it was mischievous to suggest that the governor was kept incommunicado. While denying that his brother was hospitalised, Jideofor, who is a lecturer in one of the universities in Enugu, declared that since only the return of the governor could douse the tension in the state, “in a matter of days, those merchants of fibs would eat their words.”

As Enugu people await the governor’s return, opposition politicians, who maintain that Chime may not regain his seat, have been identifying potential losers and beneficiaries. For instance, those who may lose if Chime does not regain his seat are said to include Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo, the powerful Chief of Staff to the governor.

Nwobodo is an Amokwe Udi-born accountant married to Justice Afam Nwobodo of Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Council of the state. Others are Joe Mmamel, a lawyer and Machiavellian former chairman of Ezeagu Local Council; Mr. Ikeji Asogwa, Nsukka-born General Manager of Enugu State Housing Corporation; Chimezi and Cornelius Ani, both of whom are the governor’s in-laws.

The Deputy President of Senate, Ike Ekweremadu; the Acting Governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi; and Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Gilbert Nnaji, are those identified as great beneficiaries of a possible sudden change of guards in Enugu politics. But if Chime ever returned, the calculation would change and the ‘losers’ will win again!

The DANGERS OF Wearing thongs!

Thong is loved by so many of us (men and women) that it’s hard to imagine a girl who doesn’t have at least a piece in her wardrobe. It is comfortable to wear under clinging and transparent clothes and a swimsuit with a thong provides a nice even tan for your skin. However, wearing a thong too often can be dangerous.

A well-known gynecologist Lisa Masterson from Los Angeles has recently published the results of her long-term study about the influence of a thong on woman’s health. So, what was she able to find out?
According to Lisa thong, when worn on the regular basis, can cause serious problems. First of all these flirty panties favor the development of yeast vaginal infections as well as urinary infections.
This type of underwear is usually made from synthetic materials, such as nylon. It is a common fact that such fabrics tend to keep moisture and warm moist environment is perfect for dangerous bacteria existence.

Besides, thong can ‘help’ the infection spread quickly. Lisa Masterson affirms that rectal bacteria have a good chance to get into vagina through the strip of a thong.

Lisa Masterson recommends wearing a thong as rare as possible. And if you choose to put it on follow the rules you see below:
1. Never wear a thong when the weather is hot or wet.
2. Opt for natural materials such as silk or cotton. They let the air through and impede the green house effect appearance.
3. Wear a thong of your size. Too tight thong is much more dangerous than the one that fits you well.
4. Avoid wearing a thong all day long. If there is a chance to change it for something more comfortable and providing fuller coverage, do that.
5. If you prefer synthetic fabrics use daily sanitary pads and change them regularly.
6. Better stay away from swimsuits with a thong.

Tuna sells for record £1 million

Kiyoshi Kimura, president of Kiyomura Co, poses with a bluefin tuna in front of his Sushi Zanmai restaurant in Tokyo (AP/Shuji Kajiyama)

A bluefin tuna has sold for a record 1.76 million dollars (£1.095 million) at a Tokyo auction, nearly three times the previous high set last year - even as environmentalists warn that stocks of the majestic, speedy fish are being depleted worldwide amid strong demand for sushi.

In the year's first auction at Tokyo's sprawling Tsukiji fish market, the 222-kg (489lb) tuna caught off northeastern Japan sold for 155.4 million yen, said Ryoji Yagi, a market official.

The fish's tender pink and red meat is prized for sushi and sashimi. The best slices of fatty bluefin - called "o-toro" in Japan - can sell for 2,000 yen (£14.12) per piece at upmarket Tokyo sushi bars.
Japanese eat 80% of the bluefin tuna caught worldwide, and much the global catch is shipped to Japan for consumption.

The winning bidder, Kiyoshi Kimura, president of Kiyomura Co, which operates the Sushi-Zanmai restaurant chain, said "the price was a bit high", but that he wanted to "encourage Japan", according to Kyodo News agency. He was planning to serve the fish to customers later.

Kimura also set the old record of 56.4 million yen (£398,111) at last year's New Year's auction, which tends to attract high bids as a celebratory way to kick off the new year - or get some publicity. The high prices do not necessarily reflect exceptionally high fish quality.

The price works out to a stunning 700,000 yen per kilogram, or £4,941 per lb.
Stocks of all three bluefin species - the Pacific, Southern and Atlantic - have fallen over the past 15 years amid overfishing.

On Monday, an intergovernmental group is to release data on Pacific Bluefin stocks that environmentalists believe will likely show an alarming decline.

"Everything we're hearing is that there's no good news for the Pacific Bluefin," said Amanda Nickson, the director of the Washington-based Pew Environmental Group's global tuna conservation campaign. "We're seeing a very high value fish continue to be overfished."

How Intercontinental Bank Staff Stole N306 Million From Femi Falana's Account

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has stated that the N306 million stolen from the Falana and Falana Chambers’ account was returned by the bank to avoid a legal action.

A statement released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday announced that it had arrested two suspects involved in a N1.5 billion bank fraud. Olayinka Sanni, a former manager at Intercontinental Bank (now owned by Access Bank), and Oyebode Atoyebi, Personal Assistant to Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, were arrested by the commission for conspiracy, stealing, and forgery.
“I confirm that the sum of N306 million was stolen from our clients’ account by the officer,” said Mr. Falana.
“But I wish to say that the management of the bank refunded the money to avoid a legal action from our chambers,” he added.

Mr. Sanni, who also operates a Bureau de Change, SIDAW Ventures, allegedly transferred various sums of money into his SIDAW account without the bank’s customer’s consent, the EFCC said.
In addition to the N306 million transferred from the account of Falana and Falana Chambers, the suspect also allegedly transferred N65 million from the account of Babington Junior Seminary; N40 million from P.W. Nigeria Limited’s account; N15 million from Mikano International’s account; N20 million from Viju Industries Limited’s account, and N1.2 billion from Murhi International Limited into his company’s account.
“Besides, Sanni also collected the sum of $461,200 USD from one Chukwurah Nkiru, who sold it to him for the equivalent of N76, 559,200 but was not paid.

“Sanni is also embroiled in a foreign exchange scam where his SIDAW Ventures account was used to handle the sum of N104, 405, 000 where only N72,229,000 worth of foreign exchange was paid to the customer leaving a balance of N32, 185, 000 being hotly contested between his firm and the customer,” read the statement signed by Wilson Uwujaren, the commission’s Spokesperson.
Mr. Atoyebi, who is also enmeshed in a N501 million money laundering charge alongside Mr. Ikuforiji, was arrested for conspiracy and complicity, having allowed Mr. Sanni to use his name and passport-sized photograph to open an account in SIDAW Ventures Limited in the name of Akanmu Babatunde.
“With this fictitious name, Sanni brokered many shady deals and duped many innocent people,” the commission stated.
The EFCC said that the duo will be arraigned in court “soon.”

Kim Kardashian Fake Pregnancy Like Beyonce – Who’s The Surrogate Mother?

So will Kim Kardashian have a fake pregnancy ala Beyonce? Come on, we all know Bey had a surrogate… especially after her Australian TV appearance where her belly seemed to flip inside out momentarily. Hey to each her own… but why lie about it. Yes, I did see the white bikini photo of B, but that was clearly a photo-op and anyone can push out their belly a little. How could Kim pull it off and why?

Well, for one, Kim’s baby daddy Kanye West and Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z are BFF’s so the idea was probably brought up by Yeezy. Bey seemed to have gotten away with it and retained her nice tight figure, perhaps Kanye thought Kim should do it to. Come on, we all know that once Kim actually has a baby she is going to blow up. Kanye knows that too, so he was trying to be proactive about things and gave her the idea to have someone else ruin their body and Kim could have all the joy and glory.

It would not have been that hard. Kim was taking steps to harvest her eggs, so clearly she had a plan already. I don’t believe that plan included freezing her eggs, but to actual put them in another woman’s basket. It is still early. Kimmie is only 3 months preggers so it will probably be another month or so before she starts showing if she really is carrying baby Kimye herself. But everyone should be watching her belly like a hawk for signs of folding. For those of you who have never been pregnant, your belly folding in is not normal. Hell, even if you have never been pregnant that’s not normal. What do you think readers? Is Kim really pregnant or is she using a surrogate? If she is using a surrogate do you think that is why the Kardashian’s were quick to say they would not be filming the birth? Photo Credit: Fame Flynet
